  1. This directory contains Release 1 of the ABC distribution.
  2.  
  3. Set ftp's file transfer type to "binary" for all versions except
  4. the Macintosh hqx file.
  5.  
  6. abcversions
  7.     documents the different releases.
  8.     
  9. abc.intro
  10.      gives a quick overview of ABC and its implementations,
  11.      and gives a few examples of ABC programs.
  12.  
  13. abc.unix.tar.Z
  14.     This is the source for the Unix version.
  15.     Put it in the parent-directory where you want the ABC source to reside,
  16.     (e.g. /usr/local/src), and type:
  17.         zcat abc.unix.tar.Z | tar xf -
  18.     (sometimes you need to type 'xof' instead of 'xf' to make yourself the
  19.      owner of the files extracted from the tar-file; see 'man 1 tar').
  20.     All files will then be unpacked in the subdirectory abc
  21.     (e.g. /usr/local/src/abc/).
  22.     About 1.4 megabytes will be needed for the source.
  23.     You will need 2.5 megabytes in total to compile and install the system.
  24.     First read abc/README to find out how to install the ABC system.

  26. abcpc.arc
  27.     This is the version for the IBM PC and compatibles running MS DOS.
  28.     To extract the five files abc.exe, abckeys.exe, abc.hlp, abc.msg and
  29.     abcintro.doc change to the disk and directory where you want them
  30.     and type e.g.:
  31.         arc x abcpc.arc
  32.     Read abc.hlp to find out how to use ABC on a PC.
  33.     The extracted files total about 226K disk space.

  35. abcst.arc
  36.     This is the version for the Atari ST.
  37.     To extract the six files abc.tos abckeys.tos, abc.hlp, abc.msg,
  38.     abcintro.doc and readme.st type:
  39.         arc x abcst.arc
  40.     Read readme.st, abc.hlp and abcintro.doc to learn
  41.     how to use ABC on the ST.
  42.     The extracted files total about 373 K disk space.

  44. abc.mac.sit.hqx
  45.     This is the version for the Apple Macintosh.
  46.     It is a binhexed StuffIt archive.
  47.     First choose "Decode Binhex File ..." from StuffIt's Other menu.
  48.     (Or BinHex itself if you have an old version of StuffIt).
  49.     Then "Open Archive ..." abc.mac.sit from the File menu to extract
  50.     the four files MacABC, MacABC.help, MacABC.doc and ABCintro.doc.
  51.     The latter two are MacWrite documents that tell you how to use MacABC.
  52.     The extracted files comprise about 333 K.
